Our Story
Medhane started where the best things often start — at home, in a kitchen, with women who knew what their bodies needed before science gave it a name. For generations, our family has carried the practice of natural healing through teas, steams, and herbal blends made by hand. What our grandmothers prepared for cramps, for grief, for sleeplessness, for the postpartum body, for the long hours after a hard week — that is what we make today, and what we share with our clients. Medhane is what happens when a family recipe grows into a movement. We started Medhane LLC because the women we love deserved better than what was on the shelf at the corner store, and so does every woman walking through our doors. We are based in the Washington, D.C. metro area. We make our products in small batches with intention, and we serve our clients — local and national — with the same care we would give our own.
The Founders
Medhane LLC is founded and operated by Keira Medhane, alongside her husband Kaleab Medhane serving as a silent partner and supporter of the company’s vision. Together, we believe in creating a space centered on healing, restoration, faith, and compassionate postpartum care.
Keira Medhane:
I was drawn to this work through years of caring for women, learning traditional herbal practices, and witnessing how deeply postpartum care is often overlooked. Medhane means creating a space where women feel seen, supported, and restored — not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. This work is personal to me because it is rooted in the wisdom, compassion, and healing traditions passed down through my family.
Kaleab Medhane:
While I work more quietly behind the scenes, the heart of Medhane began with the name itself—our family name. “Medhane,” an Amharic word meaning healer, savior, and deliverer, carries deep meaning for us, and we believe God chose this name for the business long before we fully understood the vision. It reflects the faith, restoration, and healing we hope to bring through our work. Supporting this vision means helping create a foundation where healing, family, faith, and community can thrive together.
What Medhane Means
Medhane is more than a name. It is a reflection of lineage, healing, and restoration passed down through generations of women in our family who understood that true healing does not begin with only the body. It begins with the womb, extends through the body, and reaches the soul. You cannot tend to one and neglect the other two. That belief is the foundation behind every product we create and every appointment we hold.
The name Medhane comes from the Amharic language of Ethiopia. In Amharic, “Medhane” (መድኃኔ) means “Savior,” “Healer,” or “Deliverer.” Rooted in Ethiopian culture and tradition, the name carries the meaning of restoration, protection, and healing — values that guide the heart of our work.
Womb.
The center. The seat of intuition, fertility, cycle, and ancestry. Honored, cleansed, and supported with intention and care.
Body.
The vessel. Nourished from within using herbs, plants, and practices passed down from our grandmothers and rooted in traditional wellness.
Soul.
The compass. Steadied through prayer, rest, reflection, and the quiet practice of choosing yourself first.
At Medhane, we believe healing should be holistic, compassionate, and deeply rooted in community, culture, and care. You must nourish yourself to flourish. Self-care begins within.
